Roubo Workbench
A solid workbench is the core to any shop. Its a necessity for hand tool work, and even valuable for the hybrid woodworker who uses machinery. The Roubo workbench excels as a workbench because of its thick, chunky top, thick legs, and well built vise hardware from Benchcrafted. This design dates back to when Andre Roubo created it in the 18th century.
In this class you will gain an incredible amount of knowledge on many woodworking techniques. You will learn mortise and tenon joinery, dovetails, using the Festool Domino, using the plunge router, the use of many jigs, the art of properly milling wood, working with hardware.
The glide leg vise, used primarily for holding parts and working the edges, comes very useful. Just by spinning the hand wheel smoothly, it will lock the work piece in place. Right next to the leg vise is the sliding deadman. This part of the workbench allows longer pieces in the vise to be supported via a peg.
The tail vise is perfect for working the faces of boards with the work held between 2 wooden dogs. Once the hand wheel is tightened, the work piece is strongly secured between the adjustable bench dogs via the several spaced dog holes in the top.
The workbench also has a shelf on the bottom to store your tools or parts and is removable with ship lap joinery.
The center of the workbench features a gap stop. A gap stop runs down the center of the workbench and allows a place to store your chisels and handsaws when working. Or, when raised up, can act as a stop when working on boards across their width. This gap stop can also be completely removed for clamp access in the middle of the top.
Now in case you have to move the workbench it features knockdown design by using bolts and barrel nuts. This way the long stretchers can be removed and the workbench becomes a left and right leg assembly. The top registers on the top with massive tenons that mate to massive mortises in the top sections. And those two massive 4" thick top sections are secured to the leg assemblies with four Spax lag screws for easy disassembly/reassembly.

For this class you have 2 options for wood species combinations. There is hard maple with cherry accent parts. Or, ash with walnut accent parts. If you decide on another wood species you want to use, then you must contact me via phone or email and we will have to setup the class in person.

This package uses the classic sliding handle which is lighter in weight than the glide and gives the traditional look to the workbench. NOTE: Since this is a large project class it will be broken down into 2 payments. The first payment will be due prior to class. Then the second payment 1/2 way thru the class. If you would like to pay all up front then you must select both payments when in cart.
