Virtual Classes

Want to learn more about woodworking and stay at home or your own shop at the same time? Then these virtual classes are great to learn a new topic about woodworking. All these classes will be taught live using ZOOM. There is a date and time in each class description.  Once you enroll in a class online you will be emailed the necessary info to sign into the ZOOM meeting the day of the class. Since these classes are taught virtual, the class limits will be 12 students per class.

Introduction to Woodworking

This class is geared towards the beginner looking into understanding the woodworking shop. We will go over each machine in the shop such as the tablesaw, bandsaw, jointer, planer, routers, sanders, and more. You will have a chance to ask questions on each tool once I complete my discussions. We will look at the various parts to the machine, setting up the machines, safety, accessories to the tools, and pros/cons.

Understanding Handplanes

Handplanes are a vital tools in any woodworking shop and in this class you will learn how to use the range of handplanes. The class will focus on selection, setup, sharpening, and proper usage. There will also be discussion on specialty planes such as shoulder planes, moulding planes, and scrapers. You will have a chance to ask questions on each handplane once I complete my discussions.

Hand Tool Sharpening

Having a set of sharp chisels and a hand plane is essential for any woodworker to have. In this class, you will experience the various ways to sharpen your tools to a sharp keen edge. The "Worksharp" will be the cornerstone to this class as I demonstrate how to use it to sharpen hand tools. Also, diamond stones, water stones, and sandpaper will be discussed as options. You will have a chance to ask questions on each sharpening system once I complete my discussions.

The Milling Process

Are you tired of buying lumber from your local big box store and want to explore using more premium woods? Well in this class I will go over each step through the process of milling rough lumber to its final dimensions. The tablesaw, jointer, planer, and mitersaw will be used exclusively. I will also talk about how lumber is made at the sawmill, different grades of hardwoods lumber, and how to layout parts for your project. You will have a chance to ask questions throughout the class on any milling topic.

Wood ID

Ever wonder what wood that is? In this class I will talk about how you can figure out species by smell, grain structure, and color. I will go into the more scientific aspects of wood ID by using a  magnifying glass to show what wood is comprised of. Also, I will suggest sources for ID'ing wood such as websites and books (how I learned). You will have a chance to ask questions throughout the class on any wood ID'ing.

Simple Wood Finishes

Looking to learn the easy way to finish your project? In this class I will go over one of the easiest types of applications with being wipe on finishes. I will discuss different products available to use, the application process, the pros/cons of each, and cleanup. After attending this class you will have lots of confidence to pick out a finish and use it on the next project. You will have a chance to ask questions throughout the class on any finishes you seek interest in.
